The Free Swim Lessons program is part of the Coastside Aquatics Center, a non-profit organization created by community members with a shared vision to promote safety, health, and wellness through aquatics. Coastside Aquatics Center is a 501(c)(3) organization and promotes health, safety, and wellness through aquatics for the San Mateo County Coast. The organization was founded by members of the community who shared a vision of bringing the many benefits of an aquatics center to the community and making water safety skills accessible to all, and it promotes the importance of water safety in the community through efforts such as Water Safety for All and Free Swim Lessons for kids June 17–July 25.

The Coastside Aquatics Center describes itself as a swim facility for coastal Half Moon Bay and has a goal of extending the hours of operation of the swimming pool at Half Moon Bay High School to turn it into a true community pool. It plans to offer lessons for all ages and skill levels, and groups like the Boys and Girls Club, Maverick's Swimming Association, and other community organizations would benefit.
